Public Liability Insurance covers damages for which your business is legally liable to pay following an incident which occurred in the course of or in connection with your business where you can be held legally liable following the actions of any member, partner, director, principal or employee. This insurance product covers your business in case of death, illness, or bodily injury as well as accidental loss of or damage to the property of other people.
The cover extends to include legal defence costs arising from any legal action brought against your business. This product also includes cover in case of damages resulting from wrongful arrest, assault or defamation as well as any sudden, unforeseen and unintended pollution, contamination or seepage, including the clean-up costs.
The cover includes the following add on options: -
- Products Liability – this cover option is suitable for businesses which manufacture products for use by the public. This cover applies to damages resulting from product contamination or inferior workmanship and extends to include the costs incurred for product recall.
- Food & Drinks Liability – this cover option is suitable for businesses which serve food or drinks to their employees or those whose main business involves the sale of food and drinks to the public and covers liability arising from any death, illness, or bodily injury as a result of the consumption.
The Insurance (often called D&O Liability Insurance) is liability insurance payable to the directors and officers of a company, or to the organization(s) itself, as indemnification (reimbursement) for losses or advancement of defence costs in the event an insured suffers such a loss as a result of a legal action brought for alleged wrongful acts in their capacity as directors and officers. Such coverage can extend to defence costs arising out of criminal and regulatory investigations/trials as well; in fact, often civil and criminal actions are brought against directors/officers simultaneously. Intentional illegal acts, however, are typically not covered under D&O policies.
