Executive Leadership Changes at Stanbic Bank in Kenya
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Joshua Oigara as Chief Executive, Stanbic Bank Kenya, and South Sudan effective 1st December 2022, following the retirement of the current Chief Executive, Mr. Charles Mudiwa, after two decades of illustrious service to the Standard Bank Group.
Mr. Oigara has over the last decade been instrumental in driving growth and development of the banking sector. He served as Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, KCB Group for 9.5 years during which the Group grew to command significant market share in total assets, revenue, and customer base, achieving significant commercial and social transformation both in Kenya and the region.
Mr. Oigara holds an MBA with a distinction in International Business Management from Edith Cowan University, Australia, a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi and is an Advanced Management Programme Graduate from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya, CPA (K) and a member of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Mr. Mudiwa, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Kenya, and South Sudan is retiring after a remarkable career of over 20 years effective December 31st, 2022.
His journey at Standard Bank Group started in 2002 when he joined Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe as Executive Director. His next assignment was at Standard Bank South Africa, with notable milestones in the role including Mzansi, the first interbank financial inclusion product in South Africa. Charles’ first Chief Executive role was at Standard Bank Malawi, and he later served as Chief Executive, Stanbic Bank Zambia.
Mr. Mudiwa took the helm at Stanbic Bank Kenya in 2017 and has played a significant role in transforming the organization. Under his leadership, the bank has grown tremendously in profitability, growing 225% from Kes 4Bn to Kes 9 Bn. He is a diversity champion and notable in this regard was the launch of Standard Bank’s women banking propositions, Anakazi in Zambia, and DADA (Dare to Aspire, Dare to Achieve) in Kenya. Further, he steered the formation of Stanbic Kenya Foundation which has positively impacted thousands of lives across Kenya and South Sudan.
